Thanks Kiran Kishore for the response, even so, while the information you provided is interesting, it doesn't answer the questions posted. The question conspicuously states:

Older versions of Windows had an option to check for updates but not download or install them. I was told when you upgraded windows 10 for free it was part of the user understanding that Windows would have control of the updates. That suggests to me if you desire full command of updates yous have to buy a version of Windows 10.

Because there is no selection to customize or select updates on my edition of Windows 10 a lot of bug were created after some updates were installed or drivers changed. After a long process to figure out the reason behind errors and I uninstalled the updates associated with the errors and the errors stopped. Now if these updates are reinstalled considering I don't have choice to unselect them I'm convinced the problems will reappear! Actually!!!
I want to savour PC & and adjust it to my needs!

I've always been able, in the by, to pick and choose the Windows downloads I want on my machine.
I am enraged that I tin can no longer exercise so.
Not only is Microsoft chewing up my memory, information technology is too screwing up some of my electric current settings, documents and programs.
It is arrogant of Microsoft to take command of MY machine in this mode.

If you opted for the fall creates insiders your screwed I reimaged my system and they withal tried to go me it was a pain full procedure but in one case I went back to manufacture drivers and such and got rid of the insider hub sneakily hid in my registry and all the new apps they installed things are fine

Open Group Policy Editor start -> run ->(gpedit)
Goto :
Calculator COnfiguration
Administrative Templates
Windows Components
Windows Update
Dbl Click "Configure Automated Updates" on the right
Then,
click "Enabled" top correct
select option 2 "Notify for download...." (outset option in bottom left block).
Apply.
